Fire Extinguisher Inspections


The Ontario Fire Code requires fire extinguishers located in commercial, industrial and some residential occupancy to be inspected at approximately 30 day intervals.


"INSPECTION" is a "Quick Check" to ensure that a fire extinguisher is readily available and fully operational. It is intended to provide reasonable assurance that the extinguisher is fully charged and available for use.


This is done by visually verifying the placement of the equipment is properly
positioned in its designated space. It also ensure that the placed equipment has not been tampered with and that the visual tamper seal is intact and unbroken and that there is no obvious physical damage or condition to prevent safe operation. The value of inspections lies directly in conjunction with the frequency, regularity and thoroughness at the time it was conducted.
